I'm professor Bayan salim Obaid Al-Numan, PhD in Structural Engineering 1996, I'm professor of structural engineering since Feb. 2007 from Al-Mustansiriya University in Baghdad Iraq. Ive been an academic staff member since 1992. Ive supervised numbers of PhD and MSc students in various Iraqi universities. Ive published numerous papers and one text book. I've been in Ishik University, Erbil, Iraq since 2009, and was the first head of department of civil engineering in the university when established in 2010.

My Teaching philosophy is :

The principles and philosophy for quality teaching

Quality teaching shall include the following:

 

1. It should be knowledge-based.

The lecturer should put great effort to present the best up-to-date knowledge for the student. He/she should let the students participate by assigning different subjects to different student groups and arrange seminar(s) for this target.2.Analytical part of the lectures

In case of analytical lectures, the lecturer shall pay large attention to the assumptions set and the following analytical steps. He/she shall make careful effort on reasoning of every assumption and analytical step.3.Examples and applications

Well-described comprehensive example(s)/application(s) shall be presented.

 

4.Home works should follow. It should be taken from the text-book problem sets

The students should submit timely and appropriately. These HWs play a major role in the learning process.

 

5.Quizzes are necessary to evaluate the students and to boost the learning process. Number of 4 quizzes during the semester is found appropriate.

 

6.Projects work

This is a special engineering task. The student should be capable of designing an engineering problem, appropriately issue a related design report, appropriately issue related drawing sheets and present these in a seminar. This is particularly important for graduate engineering students.

 

7.Pre-final grades shall consist of the above-mentioned tasks. It should have 60% of the total grade.

 

8.Final exam should be comprehensive, inclusive of analytical/knowledge-based questions, and consists of 40% of the total grade.
